THIS IS A REBUBLISHED MAP LAID ONTO CLOTH
Ref: 4LincolnsInn, 1746, John Rocque

The Envrions of Lincoln's Inn Fields first published circa 1746. As the name implies, Lincoln's Inn Fields were formerly pasture areas that provided milk and beef to London. Cattle stopped grazing the land around the turm of the 16th and 17th centuries, and the area was gradually transformed into a fashionable area of London. As the city expanded to the west the fashionable moved with it, and as Lincoln's Inn was near the Inns of Court, lawyers found it convenient to locate there. In 1792, Sir John Soanes purchased number 12, and he subsequently acquired numbers 13 and 14.
