An original colour lithographic map, not a reproduction, dissected and laid down on cloth. We have provided a handmade slipcase covered with marbled paper in the tradition of travelling maps from the 18th century onwards. This is a colour lithographic map printed by G. W. Bacon for his “Large Scale Atlas of London and Suburbs” in 1925.
G. W. Bacon (1830 – 1922) was an American who established a map making business in London in 1870. He moved to London in 1861 and after starting several businesses went bankrupt in 1867. Undeterred and obviously learning some hard lessons his new mapmaking business flourished and was taken over in c1900 by W. & A. K. Johnston, the famous Scottish firm of mapmakers, and maps carrying his name were published up to the middle of the 20th century.
