First World War map depicting the British campaigns against Turkey during World War One 1914 - 1918. Mesopotamia was a historical region situated within the Tigris-Euphrates river system including inset maps of the Iraqi cities of Baghdad and Basra.

Contemporary Events

As published at the time of this map, 1920:

Mestopotamia was the scene of British Campaigns against Turkey 1914 - 1918. They fell in to two distinct phases. The first, which began in Nov.1914, ended with the disaster at Kut, April 1916. The swecond was one of swift and dazzling victory, in which British prestige was vindicated, and all the failures of the earleir campaign were herpoically avenged.

When in the late autumn of 1914 it became evident that Turkey would join the Central Powers, the British Government decided for safety to protect its interests in Mesopotamia, which included the valuable oilfields in the Persian Gulf. For long the Germans had secretly conceived a grandiose scheme of Asiatic domination in which by controlling the Baghdad Railway she would make use of Turkey to further her permeation of Persia and Afghanistan, thus ultimately threatening India and Egypt.

 Framing Information
We make our own frames from moulding hand finished in our workshops. The standard finish is a distressed black with a gold slip inserted for the larger maps.

We finish the moulding in two other colours, Antique Red and Antique Green. These colours can be used on any of our prints or maps, both reproductions and originals, but have been chosen specifically to suit some of the antique prints and illustrations.

Some of the maps are very big so for weight, shipping and safety reasons we use 3mm acrylic as the glazing material.
 Product Information
We specialize in supplying original maps and reproductions of the rarer maps, all dissected and hand laid onto 100% natural cotton cloth. All of them are supplied in handmade slipcases covered in marbled paper taken from our collection of original papers dating back to circa 1700.
